Fora review

We couldn't get into Lashers (thanks Christine for all your recos), so we ended up at Fora's on 2nd St. in LB on Saturday night. It's a small space but intimate with good service.

Very pleasant experience. I had a glass of Bonterra Viognier with my crabcake appetizer and john dory entree. The crabcake was made with blue lump crab meat, which was a nice change from the shredded mess and filler that some restaurants try to pass off as crabcake. It had a nice crust on it and was garnished with mango avocado salsa, remoulade and aged balsamic vinegar. A touch on the salty side for me but overall very good, and the salsa was a nice accompaniment. The sauteed john dory very tender and topped with mango chowchow, served with a side of spinach. The chowchow added a subtle kick to the dish. Husband had the garlic free range chicken on yukon gold mashed potatoes with corn relish. I had a bite, and it was tasty and juicy. We split the flourless chocolate torte which came with whipped cream and a piece of caramelized banana which was the perfect touch to eat with the torte. My only complaint was that I wish they had warned me in the beginning that souffles were on the dessert menu. We didn't have time, but I would have liked to try the Harlequin souffle, which is a combination of 2 flavors (choose from chocolate, vanilla bean, or grand marnier). Pretty presentation for all the dishes. One drink, two entrees, and one dessert came to about $75, w/o tip.

    1. Great! I don't recall seeing a review of Fora on this board, so it's a treat to have a review of a local place I haven't been to. It's on the radar now.

Funny thing about the crab cakes: we went to Lasher's for brunch yesterday and I had eggs benedict with crab cakes and they were a bit oversalted for my taste too! Enough that I mentioned it to the server who said she'd report to the kitchen. S.O. had steak and eggs---perfect. And when you get a chance to go there sometime, the fried green tomatoes are always a winning appetizer.
