the algarve in august

i think i'm going with my girlfriend and my 5 yr old son to the algarve for a week or so in august

But i have no idea where - i think faro, while probably fun, is overpacked in august, and i hear the food options are not the best in the region.

any thoughts of a place where the food is good, not too crowded, but with enough activities to keep a kid entertained?

  1. In Altura A Chamine is great. Five minute side trip to Ayamonte might be fun. Further afar Silves,The castle would be fun for . the child, And Rui is a great seafood restaurant and for me Valdemar is nice by the market for chicken

    1. OK, August in the Algarve is very busy, but never packed. I think you should look at Armação de Pera. Plenty of choices of hotels & restaurants at all sort of prices from the 4* Hotel Garbe to luxury Vila Vita and Vilalara, lovely beach with lots of activity for kids (all hotels have their own children's program). And also very central for roaming the Algarve.
Don't burry yourself in Faro town... Not fun!

      1. We stayed in Sagres at the Pontalaia Apartments in late June with a 6 and 3 year old. It was not the high season, and it was not at all crowded. We had a wonderful time and the apartment was fantastic with a full kitchen. Sagres is at the far Western end, but you are within easy drives of Lagos, Silves, and the Western coast and great beaches.

We didn't have any bad meals at restaurants, and there is a supermarket in Sagres as well. We really enjoyed meals at Mar a Vista and Vila Vehla in Sagres, Sao Roque in Lagos, and Rui's in Silves. The seafood was fantastic, and all the places were welcoming with the kids.
