Korean Restaurant Supply or Anywhere That Sells Tabletop Grills That Are Safe For Indoors?

cloudshoveller Jun 24, 2010 12:42 AM

We are heading down to Sechelt next weekend and want to make S'mores with home-made marshmallows and graham crackers. If you can believe it...in my 33 years I never have had the opportunity to taste a S'more!

We were thinking it would be great to purchase a few of the tabletop grills like the ones at Insadong or other Korean restaurants where we BBQ our meat at the table. They would be great for allowing everyone in our large party to grill their fruit for dessert and roast their marshmallows.

Does anyone have any idea where in Vancouver we could purchase these or what the approximate cost would be? Or if anyone has other ideas for a type of grill that would work, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Pretty much any of the cooking/electronics stores in Chinatown or Richmond will sell them. I know some of the Asian supermarkets sell them as well -- Try T&T locations. Vancouver is probably the best place outside of Korea to buy such an item!!!

You can even get them (butane tabletop stoves) at Canadian Tire, I think London Drugs, and similar places. Cost is around $20-30? I have one I bought for camping and it came in very handy when we did kitchen renos.

ETA: that the round grills themselves are seperate - you can get those at Asian stores.

Thanks so much for your fast replies. I hadn't realized they were aplenty at stores I already frequent (blush). Well then, I am off to get some grills and become initiated into the "S'more Club"...

          From Canadian Tire: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse...

It's $30. When you get one, get a four-pack of butane canisters at the same time.

            Excellent question and answers.
Sorry to be such a ninny, but this little stove can both boil a pot of water AND grill? And you get the add-on grill at T&T?
Sounds like the perfect solution for the infrequent, yet hungry, campers in my house.

Yes to both questions. We have taken this stove camping many times and it can boil water pretty quickly. It is amazing how hot it can get, actually.

For the grills, T&T sells some, but check out a Korean store like H-Mart for the thicker models. The inexpensive ones are made of aluminum and look like this:

Butane prices are usually lower at stores like HMart. If the Vancouver store is anything like the one north of Seattle, it is a great place to get the burner, the fuel, and a grill that works with the burner. You could even get a stone griddle or bowl.
