Asadero y Taqueria Sonora: An Awesome Taqueria!
Here we go. I found a great place. I have to say that it even one ups Taqueria Apson. This is located at:
24 W Irvington Rd, Tucson, AZ 85714 (at 6th Ave.)
We had tacos con carne asada, al pastor, lengua and chicharron. We also had the seafood soup (all you can eat for 6.99). They were out of a stingray soup (all you can eat as well). All the taco meat was amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly, nothing was dry and chewy as hell. The chicharron was fatty and crispy and was by far the favorite. After that was moist and flavorful al pastor. The carne asada was good as was the lengua, but the first two were amazing.
The seafood soup was outstanding. A wonderful soup so good we got one to go for later. I recommend lots of lime and onion and cilantro, maybe even a little hot sauce! The horchatas were delicioso. English was spoken by one of the servers (all were very nice though).
Did I mention that after the first two tacos con chicharron we ordered four more? I want to go back tomorrow.
I am still looking for that great oaxacan mole, but that is a different post. ;P
If it's better than Apson it has to be great. Your description (esp. of the chicharron tacos) has piqued my interest: I'll have to check it out.
"One ups Tacos Apson" is an exaggeration. The carne asada at Asadero y Taqueria Sonora was tough and the birria, while well-seasoned, a bit on the dry side. But everything you say about those chicharron tacos was true: crispy, pleasantly fatty, and long on flavor. Al pastor is no longer offered; the waitstaff couldn't tell me whether or not they'd have it again.
The best part of my trip: 5 tacos, with the usual cabbage, limes, and salsa, cost me about $5.
