Fun in South beach

Hi,

I will be celebrating my birthday in south beach this summer. We are girls in our late 20s looking for a lot of fun, top notch food. We would probably want to spend around 70$ each with booze. Quality is food is very important as we are ny-ers who find it easy to judge. We would also be looking for a place with a decent bar scene. We are staying at the Pelican so somewhere in the neighboorhood or close to some great bars would be great. I doubt we will go clubbing but some nice loungey drink places would be great.

Thanks so much!

Many of the "Scene" type of places will run more than $70 with booze (Prime 112/Italian), and some of them you can find right in NYC (Bond St., Nobu). I am going to Ola on Saturday night, so can report back on the meal and cost after that. Another place you may come close to $70, depending on the amount of food ordered, is Meat Market. Great scene, good drinks, but it may creep above the $70 if you order steaks and sides. I would put Osteria del Teatro up there. GREAT people watching, as it is on one of the busiest corners for club-goers. The Forge is another spot you can probably do for around $70, especially if you take advantage of the smaller tapas style dishes. The food is generally very good there too.

Off the beach, I would put Sra. Martinez up there, though there is not too much nightlife right in that area. The drinks at Sra. Martinez are fantastic though. Truly masters of the cocktail.

As for around your area, there is a ton of stuff, really depending on what you want to do. Playwright's Irish Pub is right near by, as is Club Deuce. In south of fifth, there is a great beer/wine bar called Abraxas. For clubs there is Set, Liv at the Fontainebleu, Florida Room at the Delano. Take advantage of the hotel bars at the Delano, Shore Club (Skybar), W and rooftop at the Gansevoort. There is also a hidden bar in the Betsy Hotel, which is right down the street from you, but I have yet to make it there so I cannot direct you to the hidden staircase.

Great thanks so much. We will be there friday late night through monday. I am thinking that Sra. Martinez is a good choice for sunday for a nice meal perhaps.

As you mentioned i would definiately steer clear of of restaurants that are in NY ie scarpetta etc.

How about a bar that serves food late night for our late arrival on friday?

There is a spot in Lost Weekend called the Alibi for great cheesesteaks (fly in the bread from Philly daily) and other pub grub done well. Lost Weekend's crowds can also vary, though it is walking distance from a variety of clubs and bars. It is also pretty close to your hotel.

Burger & Beer Joint or 8 Oz. are both burger spots that will be serving food late. Down the street from Burger & Beer is Purdy Lounge, a Miami institution, though the scene can vary.

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Also, in many cases, Miami's version of the low-key lounge are the hotel bars, definitely get a couple of drinks at the ones mentioned and go from there.

I was thinking of Burger and Beer as a first night low key place. Do you know anything about the bar in the Pelican? we havent booked yet and are still deciding. Is it worth it to stay elsewhere do you think?

Also how is the food at Barton G?

I have never heard of the Pelican, to be honest. Looking at the prices for mid-July, if you want to spring a little more, the Shore Club is a great scene, beach access, etc. Their pool bar at night is beautiful.

If you want to go to Barton G's, go for dessert and drinks. Over-priced and not worth it.

If it were me, I would do Burger & Beer night one, which will free up some $$$ for another night. I would do Prime 112 night 2, for the scene. Their steaks are meh, but their apps, sides and desserts are great, plus the scene is fun and you never know what celebrities will be there. Night three go to Sra. Martinez - local chef, good food and great drinks. After Sra. Martinez, you can come back and get drinks at one of the hotel bars too.

I think that is pretty much the plan right now. Though thinking Talula instead of Sra. Martinez to make it easier on us and stay local.

Appreciate all the advice. Still desperately trying to figure out where we should stay.

I would suggest you check out the Fontainebleau, it is the perfect hotel to go with a group of girls. The hotel has great restaurants, bars, and LIV a very popular nightclub it also has a great pool scene. Other hotels you can check out are The Gansevoort, The W Hotel, Tides Hotel, Shore Club, Delano, etc.

For food I highly recommend Prime 112, great food (truffled mac & cheese and fried oreos are a must) and like mikek said you never know what celebrities will be there.

Meat Market on Lincoln Rd. : great food and ambiance.

Talula is great and has very laid back relaxed atmosphere. Great place to escape from the South Beach scene.

I highly recommend you check out Michaels Genuine for Brunch-Lunch or Dinner, different menus, they are all great!

Late night food deff. The Alibi or B&B Joint ...The Alibi makes amazing cheese steaks and truffle fries and B&B Joint great burgers.

I like the FB, but it is obscenely overpriced for rooms that were not renovated, it is way off the path of everything else on Sobe and the only restaurant worth going to they can check out the original in NYC (Scarpetta).

B&BJ is a good Friday night starter for you. Sra Martinez is closed Sunday nights so take that off your list for that night. I recommend Talula for dinner and afterwards at the Gansvoort. That or do Solea for dinner (@ W hotel) and then do W lounge after. Meat Market also a solid choice and you can do the whole Lincoln Road thing too. Hakkasan at Fontainebleau is also a great choice but its kinda out of the way and pretty expensive, especially drinks. The restaurant design is gorgeous though and its a good loungy vibe with good food if you dont mind overpaying a little. Off SoBe I'd do Michael's Genuine but if I were going to do that I'd do it on Saturday night with a later rez (9p or later) and then hit up the Electric Pickle (hipster bar w/ great music on saturday nights).
