hi all. not familiar with the area at all, but have to be there next week. would appreciate a recommendation for a unique place for lunch. i know porto's is pretty close, and we love it, but would like to try something else. we're pretty adventurous - ethnic is fine. thanks!

Can't imagine that you could do better for lunch than Viet Noodle Bar, in any part of town.

thanks both! did a quick yelp and saw some naysayers, but looks like it is overwhelmingly positive. also dug up exile kiss' review from a google search.

"did a quick yelp and saw some naysayers..."

Yelp naysayers...just as useless as Yelp yea sayers... ;-D>

Viet Noodle Bar is essentially peddling gentrified Vietnamese comfort food. If that's what you want, then it's fine. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

i'm not a yelper but i found viet noodle bar to be bland. it's obvious that they really care about their food but the flavor is lacking.

if you are open to driving up closer to porto's - try raffi's place restaurant in glendale. really nice patio and great food.

I've had a couple of very good meals at Canele in Atwater Village on Brand. And if you're around on Sunday, you can get some Big Mista's BBQ from the farmer's market.

Canale is on Glendale Blvd. (which turns into Brand in Glendale). Canale is a nice place. Viet Noodle is my go to eatery. Tacos Villa Corona is great but not really conducive to a sit down. The Village Bakery on Los Feliz might also be a good option.

"Tacos Villa Corona is great but not really conducive to a sit down" that would be understating it.
