Fine dining in Wernersville/Reading area?

  • 6

We're taking a little road trip to PA to visit my Mom on her 89th birthday. I'd like to take her out to a really nice restaurant, but haven't lived in the area for quite awhile and don't know what's around. My husband and I once had a really great dinner in Mount Penn, but I can't remember the name of the restaurant and it was years ago.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. Keep going west to Womelsdorf to Stouch Tavern. Colonial stagecoach stop, George Washington ate there, etc. http://stouchtavern.com/index.html

There have been other threads here about Reading, try a search.

Stouch Tavern is really nice. If you want another option out that way, just a little further East (it's not really in Myerstown, even though that's the address) is Porch. Do the fine dining upstairs.

        Thanks for the input.

The Stouch Tavern looks interesting, but I think Porch has a better menu for the tastes of our group. Might do Stouch for lunch one day.

    2. Anthony's Trattoria in Mount Penn, or actually Pennside is very good Italian. Judy's on Cherry, where Widow Finney's was off of Penn Street in the city of Reading has more comtemporary/global cuisine. Arbor Inn in Mt. Penn (never been here). In W. Reading, there is BIstro 614, very nice. All have a wide-ish range of menu choices.
      W. Reading also now has a wine bar- Winedown. woohoo!

      1. Papillon Brasserie on Penn Ave in West Reading is fantastic. Rotating menu features French cuisine, seasonal dishes. local produce. BYOB, definitely make reservations.

The food is good, but the chef/owner has a major attitude! We suggested this place to many friends and all of them had issues. Judy's on Cherry, Arbor Inn, Bistro 614 before Papillon On Penn Ave.
