making pizza dough at home.
Does anyone have a fail proof recipe for pizza dough? I have tried many recipes and they are too stretchy or too stiff. What recipe works for you?
I make this recipe all the time & it never fails...I even used it when I was the baker for a restaurant I worked at; always comes out perfect
Pizza Dough ( Makes two 12 inch pizzas)
1 1/2 cups warm water (110F. degrees)
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1/4 cup olive oil
2 1/4 teaspoons salt
4 1/2 cups bread flour, divided
Non stick cooking spray Or additional oil for brushing inside of bowl
Whisk together the water, sugar & yeast in a large bowl; allow mixture to bloom for about five minutes. Whisk in the olive oil & salt then begin stirring in the flour with a wooden spoon, one cup at a time until mixture begins to pull away from the bowl; sprinkle a surface with remaining flour and knead the dough until smooth.
Spray inside of bowl with non stick cooking spray & place dough back in; cover with a towel and sit in a warm place to rise until doubled or about one hour. After an hour, remove dough from bowl, knead for a few minutes then divide and roll out to fit pizza screens or stone.
If you want to freeze one of the doughs, now is the time to wrap in plastic & put into a ziploc bag to freeze. Later if you want to cook it, just thaw out, put into a bowl with a towel to rise until doubled & follow rest of directions in this recipe. I preheat my oven to 500F. degrees & bake my pizza for 10-12 minutes or however long you want your toppings to cook.
