ISO - Happy Hour sushi - Hollywood - tomorrow (Wednesday)

Hi Hounds -- I was going to try a place that I heard about -- Kura Fine Sushi at Crescent Heights and Sunset - for 6pm sushi tomorrow (Wed) eve -- BUT -- found out they are renovating their kitchen this month. :(

So -- here's what I need:

Hollywood location

Open at 6pm

Happy hour prices, if possible

parking available (prefer not to have to pay to park, but will do so if necessary)

Sushi place -- that is chow worthy but not crazy prices (eg Mori Sushi = brilliant but too exe for us)

Can be Cali sushi style -- (eg Katsuya (Studio City) or Kiwami)

Decent cold sake on offer (eg Kiwami in Studio City)

Emphasis on good quality chow vs cheap fare...

Please help with your best recs!

Shall I try Sushi Ike?

thanks in advance, houndz

  1. Hey Max, it sounds like West Hollywood is more what you are looking for in terms of location than Hollywood. Or do you really want Hollywood proper?

Hiya -- I do mean Hollywood proper, actually. Thanks!

    2. sushi ike, while not horribly expensive, is definitely not in the happy hour price range, just so you know...

Oh -- good to know! Thought Katsuya H'wood might be outa my price range.

          Thank you everyone!

Does anyone know anything about Happy Hour at Katsuya's H'wood?

Thank you very much for that info! Much appreciated.

          2. I know you said Hollywood proper...but if you are willing to head a little west you should check out Uchi Sushi on Santa Monica Blvd (near Sweetzer) in the parking lot near O-Bar. Their sushi is awesome and very reasonable and they have Happy Hour all day/night! ($1.99 beers + special prices on saki).

Hmmmn -- I did a bit of sleuthwork and Uchi sounds really great! Now I'm torn bc the Katsuya experience might be good for my out-of-town (Australian) guest, but everything else at Uchi is wining me over...

Thanks again to everyone for their assistance.

BTW -- I meant to write Thurs eve (not Wed) so I will report back on the w/end.

Hey, Max - someone that actually comes back and reports can have a week (or two) to get his posting affairs in order as far as I'm concerned. Just returning with a write up puts you so far in front of the pack I'll give you at least an extra 500 atta boys for the folow through! ;-D>

                  1. re: Maxmillion

OKAY! We all went to Uchi Sushi after all and it was GREAT!

Highly recommended -- NB -- it's not super fantastic high level sushi, but inexpensive & decent quality fare.

About $30 pp for 4 people, including over-tipping ( I think it should have been only $26 each, including tips, but we all rounded up a bit... and can't do basic arithmetic -- and I can't even blame the sake bc we didn't drink that much, I don't think...)

Oh, I asked for very dry cold sake and got given a sweet one... Oh well. Plus, it was 300mls (maybe 600mls? not sure bc it came in a nice green tall bamboo carafe and lasted forever...) and cost about $30 which was 1/3 of the $90 bill, so the sushi is even cheaper if you don't drink (natch).

Bonus -- they have a car park - $2 (I was lucky to find street parking, prob bc it was still early)
