Boulder restaurant - need one that is foodie and kid friendly (and quickly!)

We're meeting a friend from out of town for dinner in Boulder. It needs to be fit for a foodie but a place that we can take our 6 and 8 year olds. Price does not matter. We'd prefer non-Asian food, since friend is an expat in Thailand and is looking for food he can't get there as easily.
Any suggestions?

Oh, and this is for tomorrow night! :-)

Thanks in advance.

  1. I don't have kids so can't really speak to that. I'll just assume that "kid friendly" means not quiet and sedate. :-)

The Med is a big bustling place with lots of good food options for adults and kids. Zolo Grill is a fun place with excellent southwestern food. Sushi Zanmai is fun if the kids can do japanese. I'm listing places that are not pubs, as I'm assuming that you don't want that when you say "fit for a foodie", but it's hard to know what to recommend without a little more to go on.

    Sushi Zanmai
1221 Spruce St, Boulder, CO 80302

    Zolo Grill
2525 Arapahoe Ave Unit H1, Boulder, CO 80302

I've loved Salt the last few times I went. Local, seasonal, well executed and located just off the west end of the mall.

I have to disagree about the Med as being "foodie friendly." Its food is fine, but nothing that you're going to rave about or that you can't find better elsewhere. (Though the tapas happy hour is hard to beat for the price/quality ratio.)

I'd probably recommend any of the Big Red F restaurants - Zolo (southwestern), Jax (New Orleans fishhouse), Centro (Mexican), West End (pub fare) or Happy (Momofuku-style noodles and dumplings) are all delicious and have an upbeat atmosphere that kids should do well in.

Centro, Jax, and West End - as well as Salt and the Kitchen, which are also good possibilities - are all located on Pearl Street just west of the walking mall (between 9th and 11th streets), so if you don't need an advance reservation you could walk around and check all of them out before committing.

      2. So, where did you go? What was the verdict?

Sorry I've been MIA. We ended up not going after all! I had decided on Salt and still plan to go there with the kiddos sometime.
