What to order at Topolobampo?
I am coming to Chicago in a couple of weeks for girls trip to celebrate some of the group turning 40; we have a reservation at Topolobampo.
I have just read some negative commentary on the restaurant in particular the service and attitude. I have to say I am a bit worried but I do really want to try it. I would have been happy to go to Fronterra Grill but we are group of 6 and not everyone is willing to stand in line regardless of how fantastic the food is going to taste.
So my question (apologies if there is a posting on this topic - i did search the board and couldn't find anything):
What should we order at Topolobampo?
Note: a couple of us are adventureous and will eat all types of food, a couple are more conservative and one is very picky (shrimp, chicken or vegetarian) (oh and one is pregnant).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

I don't doubt that it is possible to have a bad meal and/or bad service anywhere, but I think Bayless' reputation and success have made him and his restaurants a target and often an undeserved one.
I ate at Topo in November and the food and service were extraordinary. They bent over backwards to take care of us. We each ordered a different tasting menu, neither of which is still on the menu. My only complaint was that it was too much food and my tastebuds were saying "Yes! Yes!" while my stomach was saying, "Please, no more!"
I doubt if anyone in your party will have difficulty in finding something on the menu that pleases them. Enjoy.

The menu changes frequently. Nothing I ordered at dinner a few months ago is on the current menu. My advice is the usual, i.e. just order whatever sounds best to you, and if you have any questions, ask your server.
Regarding the service, I ate at Topo earlier this year and the service was exemplary, no problems or "attitude" whatsoever. Perhaps there was a problem with one particular server (and it's possible he/she may just have been having a bad night). One thing I've observed is that people are not likely to post when they experience good food and satisfactory service, but are likely to post when they perceive a problem, so that negative reports about service are generally overrepresented here. Just go and enjoy yourself and I'll bet you find that the service is just fine. (Either way, please report back and tell us how it went!)
