1. What are your favorite Italian places in Phoenix? Why?

2. Really looking for a good Italian Mom & Pop shop in West Phoenix. Any suggestions?

3. Where can I get good Osso Buco in Phoenix and the restaurant is BYOB?

  1. So many good places, but faves would be
Marcellino - for the most inventive (and pricey) pasta
Un Bacio - for the great atmosphere and arrabiata sauce
Grazie - for wood fired pizza and an Italian wine list to die for

West side I'd do Cucina Tagliani - Kelly and his family do good a wide menu which is consistently good, though a little safe. two stores on Bell at 83rd and 59th

Osso Buco and BYOB ? - Bravo Bistro is the only place that I can think of that does both. I've had several good meals there, but don't seek it out regularly. I think they may have gone full service

    Un Bacio's
7704 E. Doubletree Ranch Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85258

Bravo Bistro is not BYBO. There is no one that serves Osso Bucco where you can bring your own wine.

I will add a third for chef Marcellino. Food is great, and the new venue is very nice, though much further from us. Best Italian in the Metro-Area, by my estimation.

      2. Marcellino's is my favorite though, as mentioned, it's pricey. I especially like the seafood, and homemade pastas. The chef/owners - husband and wife - are very friendly and passionate about food and wine.

In the West Valley, we like Tutti Santi in Glendale. They used to have fantastic Neapolitan-style pizza from their wood oven, but we haven't been in a while and I heard their pizzaiolo Franco has left. Favorites include the homemade ricotta and spinach ravioli, veal cannelloni, and cioppino when they have it. Osso bucco isn't on the regular menu, though they sometimes have it as a special.

For more affordable Italian, when we're shopping in the Arrowhead Mall area (i.e. chain-ville), a favorite spot to grab an early dinner is the small bar at Cucina Tagliani. I always get the same thing - spaghetti with clams (in the shell) in a spicy pepperoncini sauce. If you like heat, this is great. Depending on what day they made it that week, it gets spicier and spicier. Sometimes I add pancetta too. E also has his standing order - fettucini alfredo with a side of sausage.

Another spot I've heard good things about is a casual restaurant in downtown Glendale called La Piazza al Forno, but haven't been yet.

love that pepperoncini sauce, has the texture of a tomatilla salsa with all the heat of the peppers, great dish.

        2. Pasta Bar is far and away my favorite pasta place in Phoenix although I think reviews have been mixed on here. Noca, already a good choice for pasta, has expanded its pasta menu and so that could be a good choice but its not an Italian restaurant per se. A great red sauce Italian place, nothing fancy (believe me) is Pat's Pizza Plus on Glendale at 12th Street. Not quite West Valley but really good pizza and pasta dishes.

          1. That this thread has been up for four days and nobody has mentioned Andreoli is tragic.

Adding map link. I really need to finally get to Andreoli.

So mention it! it gets mentioned as often for Italian as often as Tradicionces gets mentioned for mentioned Mexican on the board.

                1. re: kmarg

                  I thought I just did :-)

                  1. re: Dmnkly

                    that reminds me,
Guido's Chicago Meat and Deli on Scottsdale & Shea, great subs and take out pasta, and a decent Italian market as well. They've got killer pizza as well.
                    always worth a stop.

              2. Just tried Miele's Friday night in the east valley (tempe/mesa). Very nice independent italian rest. Cozy, nice wine menu, nothing over 18 dollars... (entree) I had Shrimp Fradiavlo, Husband had chix parm, which I found better than mine.

We also shared a small pizza which was delish. If you live arnd the area, it is def worth checking out.

Miele's makes a really tasty white pizza!

                2. Our favorite Italian (and it certainly qualifies as Mom & Pop) would be Aeillos on Central North of Camelback on the West side. Everything we've had there is excellent.

I don't know about osso buco nor a BYOB.

                  1. Count me as another vote for Cucina Tagliani on the West side. We prefer their original location (59th and Bell) over the 83rd Ave. location. We've tried 83rd a few times, andal it just wasn't the same, so we drive the extra 3 miles to go to the original.

La Piazza al Forno (historic downtown Glendale) is also good. I love their chicken pesto lasagna, and the family enjoyed their pizza.

                    1. Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Have been to quit a few of these and was looking for a place that we haven't tried, so got a few new places to hit now.

Try Oregano's... in my opinion, by far one of the best Italian restaurants in the Valley. Get their early though. It fills up EVERY NIGHT!
