Searching for steamed crabs.....

My partner is once again getting her annual craving for steamed crabs....we lived in Maryland for several years, and have yet to make an attempt to find a place that serves them here.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a place near Asbury Park that serves good sized, tasty crabs?

I am willing to drive a few extra miles, if I have to. Thank you!

  1. I too have been looking for something like this in our area - I just saw an ad for Dockside in Sea Bright - says they have all you can eat crabs on Mondays and Tuesdays, and also have a crab fest with the following items listed:

Steamed Blue Crabs. Sauteed Garlic Crabs. Dockside Famous Angry Crabs or Lobster. Alaskan King Crab Legs. Snow Crab Legs. Steamed Lobster with Drawn Butter. Pan Roasted Seafood Paella. Ginger Seaweed Salad.

I plan on trying it one of these days...let me know if you try it!

Really, all-you-can-eat steamed crabs in Monmouth County? That’s terrific. I’ve been looking for such a place for years. Thanks.

The only other place remotely close to me is on Mantoloking Road in Brick, just west of the bridge. It’s called the Crab Shack or something equally generic. As they have only a few picnic tables, I have always declined eating there. The crabs they offer, however, have been consistently good and I would recommend the place without hesitation should there be anyone else interested in a DIY feast.

Yes and the crabs come in all sizes at the crab shack, and range from $12/dozen to $60/dozen. I was just there a week ago. .

    2. Not near Asbury Park, but due west, over on the other coast of NJ is the Blue Claw Crab Eatery in Burlington on 130. Great crab feasts, year round. Steamed old bay and dumped on brown paper topped tables.

I checked out the website - looks like a great place. We will definitely check this out when we head to Philly again.

Was just there a couple weekends ago and they were steaming up Mexican blues. I actually went for the all you can eat king, snow, and dungeness feast that was fantastic. -mJ

            1. While I realize that it is not particularly close to Asbury, I couldn't help but wonder if anyone has had any experience with the Dock Road Crab Shack??

Based on glowing comments in previous LBI threads, I really wanted to like Dock Road Crab Shack in Manahawkin. Visited with my family in early August, and it was a disaster. Their house crab seasoning was way too spicy, perhaps to cover the mushy crabs. But the absolute dealbreaker were the FLIES. Although we ate inside, there were large flies swarming amongst the tables and landing on our food. The waitress was completely unsympathetic, saying only that "flies are attracted to crabs." Funny, in my experience, other crab shacks, even the outdoor variety, manage to keep flies away. It was a totally disgusting experience.
