anniversary dinner outside of Providence

We want to try someplace new for our anniversary dinner this week. Thinking about Basta, l'Osteria...any other suggestions? We know Cafe Itri (and like it), Cafe Central, Persimon and De Wolfe tavern in Bristol...Also thinking about cafe Amelia (sp?) is East Providence which I think is more middle eastern. We want good food and a pleasant atmosphere where we can talk, and have a nice bottle of wine...Oh, and someone mentioned Cafe Andiamo in Johnston if we want to go byob.

My first thought was Itri, even though it's not romantic, but you beat me to it! Hmmm, where else...?

I might add that dh appreciates a good wine selection. invinotheresverde have you been to Basta or Osteria? Good to know that Spain is more intimate than it looks, the friend that has gone there went with a large boisterous group, so I associate it with that.

I've been to neither. Sorry I can't help.

I have eaten at Basta and it was excellent. For an anniversary dinner outside of Providence though, my first thought is Spain in Cranston. Beautiful decor, excellent food and service, very romantic, although not quite as intimate as Basta or Cafe Itri. Antonios, near Cafe Itri, is quite good as well.

I have been to Antonios, it was quite pleasant, but not memorable. I always think of Spain as a large rather loud place, but I have never actually eaten there, the wait was horrendous the one time we tried to get in. Good to know about Basta...I will see if DH is more in the mood for Italian or Spanish.

Second vote for Spain. It can be more intimate than you'd think judging from the outside vibe. The food is first-rate too.
