Lunch location on Grand Avenue?
I'm looking for a good place to take a friend to lunch on Grand Avenue. I know more or less what is out there, but haven't been to any of the restaurants except Shish and Punch. I'm leaning towards something ethnic. Any word on the quality of food at the Thai, Chinese, or Tibetan places on Grand?

I'm a big fan of the Khyber Pass Cafe (Afghani) buffet. It's on Grand, near Snelling. Although I think you can also order off the menu at lunch time. My favorite thing is the mung bean shola, which they suggest you put the yogurt chutney on-- oh my gosh, I'd eat that stuff every day if I could, that's how much I love it. My husband goes along with my repeated requests to eat there cos he likes the green (cilantro) chutney.

Good reminder to go there. I stopped by at lunch once a few months back when I was walking by and took a look at the buffet. It looked and smelled heavenly. I was in a hurry then and made a resolution to get back there for the buffet.
I remember it wasn't crowded on a weekday for lunch. It seemed kind of peaceful. (So I hope they are able to keep putting out that buffet.) I imagine it's even more so with Macalester on summer break.
