Lil Vinny's Groupon

Is this a kosher topic for a post? Groupon today is $20 for $45 at Lil Vinny's. I've been to big Vinny's two or three times but never tried its cousin.

In the dept. of headsmacking: I bought this Groupon and since it was good for a whole year proceeded to not use it and not use it and not use it for really no reason at all (lesson learned about my own odd habits). Tried going once on a Sunday only to find the restaurant had closed an hour early due to an emergency with the chef. Told the bf the other day that we have only days left to use the dratted thing. Just went to catch up on my Google Reader feed, and:

The restaurant is closed for the final week before the Groupon expires! I figure my options are eat the $20 or go to the restaurant after it reopens, explain the situation, and see if they'll still honor the discount.

You don't have to eat the $20, but you won't get any discount - you can use an expired Groupon for the actual amount that you paid for it (i.e., you won't get $45, but they'll give you $20 credit on your check.)

Even when the restaurant closes for the final week of the 52-week promotion?

        I know, I know, I should've just gone before.

Yeah, and I am guessing that's no mistake on their part.
Not too nice...I think you should be able to get a refund on your purchase from Groupon.

djd, i think you will not have a problem w/ this. i bet vinnie's will say 'no problem' and if they don't, just go to groupon. they want you to be happy .

I also tried to use it on a the Friday after Thanksgiving and they were closed then tried to use it on Saturday only to find that they are closed again. Not a way to build a client base.

I also think you should be able to get a refund from Groupon - or, at the very least, they may offer you a credit. They were very obliging to me when I couldn't use one of mine.

I'm in the same situation. Groupon offered an immediate credit or a refund. They also said they would be contacting Lil Vinny's to ask if they'd consider extending the Groupon.

Groupon just told me tht Lil Vinny's will no longer be accepting Groupons when they return from vacation. Lesson learned: don't wait until the last minute to use your Groupon!

I route for Lil Vinny's success as a local business, but going on vacation the last week the groupon is valid is VERY unsavory to me. I'll go to the uncle's place.

I'm with you, Bob. If extenuating circumstances forced them close for vacation unexpectedly early, at least they could have extended the groupon for a couple of weeks after they reopened. Love the eggplant parm, but I'll get my fix elsewhere.

That's exactly what we ended up doing--going to Vinny's at Night--when we encountered Lil Vinny's surprise vacation closing last week!

Don't know about the groupon, but I've eaten @ Lil Vinny's several times. Have always found the food dependable and reasonably priced. Service is capable if somewhat aloof.

I was at Big Vinny's last Sat, food was very good as usual but, judging from all the empty tables thay may want to consider groupon. I've never seen it that empty.

Went to Big Vinny's two or three Fridays ago and not only was the place nearly empty, but they seated us down in the basement (Siberia) with a group of college students. I opted to give the staff the benefit of the doubt and guess that my three-member party simply looked very young and thus got the equivalent of the kiddie table.

I was talking to Dan at the stained glass studio across from Li'l Vinny's, and he says the place has really been suffering through all of the digging up of the sidewalks and other street work being done around Magoun Square. Hopefully things will pick up for them again soon now that you don't have to walk the plank any more to get into the place.

We have been to Vinny's at Night three times in the past few weeks as it is very close by. Twice on a Friday and once on a Saturday; and it has been bustling each time. BTW - the arancini on the Antipasto Table are delicious. I was barely able to eat my meal (haddock with tomato and basil served on house made fusili - WOW!) after my trip to the table. That fusili was delicious too.

Sure-that's kosher. But I read "Lil Vinny's Groupie" and thought you were a big fan! ;-)

go for it. We did. Not affiliated with Vinny's near Sullivan Sq beyond the fact that Lil Vinny (the owner) is the nephew of the owner of the other one. Very similar menu, pricing and quality of food, but entirely different atmosphere. No groceries in sight. I don't think they have the antipasto bar either if that's a draw but I'm sure there's one on the menu.
