Gluten Free Restaurants and, Supermarkets in the Baltimore Area

Hi- I was just told this week that I need to go on a gluten free diet. Any recommendations as far as restaurants and food shopping? Thanks for your help-

  1. There's a gluten-free bakery in Charles Village called Sweet Sin:

Great cupcakes! I go there all the time time and I don't even need to eat gluten-free. And I hear they serve lunch now as well, though I'm not sure it's gluten-free.

    1. Not sure where you are in Baltimore, but Roots in Clarksville has a big gluten free section, MOM's in Jessup & David's Natural Market in Columbia also carry gluten free items. Some gluten free is available in the regular grocery stores but not a lot. I have noted Great Sage (near Roots in Clarksville) is a vegan restaurant that sometimes has gluten free items on its menu.

      1. MOM has a gluten free shopping list on its website to help you get started. Gluten free can be tricky, but there are more options than ever these days and a ton of information to help you adjust. Good luck!

        1. Thanks for all your suggestions-we've already gone to some of the recommended places and learned quite a bit.

2 more questions- I can't get a definitive answer for yogurt. Different sources give different answers.

          Finally, any restaurant suggestions?

          Thanks again-

Woodberry Kitchen has a gluten free menu available. Liquid Earth, Zia's in Towson, Great Sage in Clarksville, PF Chang's...
A link for your yogurt question, seems to be inconsistent. I'd say the plain greek yogurt is your best bet, then add in what you like and no worries of modified starches.

Another link to mainstream restos with gluten free options

If you start venturing into recipes, I'd recommend this gal

User GoodHealthGourmet is gluten free and has a ton of great knowledge that she shares on these boards

I appreciate all the great information and it's been put to good use. Recently tried Great Sage and Roots Market, MOM's and David's Markets, Outback Steakhouse , Carrabba's,PF Chaings and Lilit Cafe- all good places to go and the friendliest people to help you(as are the "mainstream" supermarkets).

              Thanks again!
