What is an exceptional restaurant in greater Albany area?

Delmar, Latham, anything off the Northway is fine. Would like vegetarian options. Doesn't have to be fancy and expensive, but it is fine if it is. I prefer anything with a European or Latin influence. Dinner for a couple.

Reservations at Basement Bistro require careful planning, maybe a year in advance. A more realistic option in Delmar is 333 Cafe, a Spanish-influenced bistro. Capriccio is great, so is Cafe Madison, in Albany, all with vegetarian options.

What do you mean by exceptional? If you are looking for fine dining and a more formal dining room I'd second Yono's and suggest Dale Miller (both in Albany) or Saratoga National (in Saratoga Springs). If it's all about the food there are many more choices. Some recent threads on Dale Miller and Saratoga National:

I would love to go the Basement Bistro. Very difficult to get reservations. I finally had my name entered in their system last year. winecountrygirl's post reminds me I need to follow up with Terrence and do so diligently if I ever want to dine there. Last time we ate at Saratoga National our server was raving about B. Bistro.

A third for Cafe Capriccio if you are looking for Italian food. Very good.

I defer to other hounds for Latin restaurant suggestions.

basement bistro really sounds like a place to check out. i guess we'll have to put our name on the long list. the reviews in zagat are really something.

davmar77, so glad you enjoyed Bloomers American Bistro . . .SO went to Dine again last night. New chef and menu is supposed to be excellent. I can't wait to go!

the owner at bloomers told me the redone website should be up within the week and they are adding what he calls 'lighter fare'.

That's good to hear. Linda and Michael are very nice people. Looking forward to trying even more new dishes. I'd love to see the quail with espresso come back. I hope they leave my favorite calamari w/pepperocini app and duck prosciutto salad on the new menu :)

PS Maybe jb55555 should try Dine or Bloomers . . .but they're not Latin or European.
