Just back from San Juan, PR
Following advice from this board, we tried both Marmelade and Jam. The menus are similar and the vibe hip but Jam is slightly more casual than Marmelade, and frankly we were relieved that the chef wasn't on site at Jam. At Marmelade he made the rounds of the restaurant so often we felt he was stalking. Kind of uncomfortable. The menus at both restaurants are eclectic, but feature some of the same items, including the white bean soup and the snapper ceviche. Our best meal, however, was at Il Postino, a small italian restaurant in Condado. My tuna was so magnificent that my husband took it away from me for himself (Happy Birthday!). The service was relaxed, friendly and efficient. Great spanish wine, and loved the beef carpacciao. Less pricey than restaurants in old San Juan, but in general we were surprised at how expensive everything was on the island.
