is it blackberry season yet

Was wondering if it's time to start hitting the u-pick farms yet. Am particularly interested in Olallieberry.

  1. A couple of the Brentwood you pick farms with olallieberries appear to be closed already.

    Bacchini's Fruit Tree
    Pease Ranch.

    1. Phipps farm's website says Olallieberries have been available as of June 14th.

      A couple days ago I saw tons of unripe blackberries at Lake Temescal.

      1. It takes a while and a lot of warm weather for local blackberries to get ripe. Bay side and coastal need another month at best, on the other side of the hill and south of the bay should be coming in by then for sure.

        1. Talked with my friends from Swanton Berry Farm at today's Berkeley Farmer's Market and their olallieberry u-pick is now open @ Ano Nuevo, season will probably run 2 weeks. We plan on going out there next Friday.

            We were there in the afternoon today and picked 11 baskets of olallieberries. There are lots of berries on the vine, though the most accessible/closest to the stand rows are pretty picked over. Have aspirations of jam...

              Picked 2-1/2 lbs. of olallieberries yesterday at Swanton, they are marvelous.

              Our daily Vitamix smoothie this morning consisted of all Swanton u-pick fruit:
              * Kiwis picked there in January (kept in cold storage, now ripening).
              * Strawberries picked early June (frozen).
              * Olallieberries picked yesterday.

              Blackberry u-pick to open there mid-July.
              We'll be there.
