Strawberries in central CT

I'm heading up to CT to visit dad for father's day and would love to make him strawberry shortcake. I'll be in the Moodus/Middletown areas. Any good places to get native berries? I'm not sure if I will have time to actually pick so recommendations for places to buy or to pick would be nice. - thanks.

I would go to Lyman Orchards in Middlefield.

I would second Lyman Orchards. I am sure they would have the other components for making strawberry shortbread as well in case you don't have time to make them.

Agree Lyman's is great - II actually worked there back in the 70's! I was just trying to get some berries a little bit closer.

In Avon there's the Pickin Patch.

Paul & Sandy's on Rte. 66 in East Hampton...great for all summer produce, especially CORN!

          In Portland:
To buy--QP Market on 66 diagonally across from the Winchester Cafe.
To pick--Gotta's U-Pick on Main St. in Portland...it's not numbered, but is about halfway down Main St. (if you turn right off of 66) midway between the Portland Bridge and Portland's four corners.

Thanks. I ended up at Staehly's roadside stand in East Haddam where they had Gotta's berries. Dad was thrilled to get homemade shortcake. Staehly's also had the Gotta's pies. Do you know if they are any good? I'm a bit of a pie snob (bless my Mother and Mother-in-law souls - they were the best pie makers on earth) and typically won't buy pies but these looked interesting, especially the peach berry.
