Need rhubarb - fresh or frozen

Allstonian Jun 17, 2010 05:09 PM

Title says it all - I need rhubarb, either fresh or frozen, in Boston, Brookline, or Cambridge.

Barmy checked the Brookline farmer's market today, and we've also checked the Packard's Corner Star and the Coolidge Corner Trader Joe's for frozen - no dice. We've got a houseguest arriving on Saturday to whom I've promised a home-baked strawberry rhubarb pie. (Well, actually Barmy promised for me, but I do enjoy making pies.)

If you're desperate, Wilson Farm in Lexington had their own rhubarb a couple of days ago.

I got some local rhubarb a couple of weeks ago at Formaggio Kitchen - it's worth calling to see if they still have some...

Just bought rhubarb at Whole Foods in Woburn. A little bit of a drive, but maybe you could check the WF in Cambridge?

Fresh Pond WF has it. I bet Brookline does.

Fresh local rhubarb at Russo's for $1.98/lb. I was just there today. [And they have local strawberries for $3.98/quart.]

y2000k FTW - I've sent Barmy off to Russo's. We've been enjoying those local strawberries for the past few weeks, actually - almost as good as the farmer's market ones and an excellent price.

Were you successful? I was at Russo's today hoping to get some rhubarb, but none available.

Yes, Barmy was successful and bought 4 perfect stalks on Friday. Sorry it was all gone already! The pie was amazing - one of the best pies I've ever made, and insanely easy. I will definitely do it again.

Strange - went back to Russo's today to pick up more local strawberries... none to be found. OTOH, local rhubarb is back, so I got some and made a rhubarb "pudding".

You should be able to find it at Stop & Shops - call the produce dept ahead to save a wasted trip. Shaw's too, but more S&S's have it.
