Monday in Memphis

Will be in for a single night. Have a car so location isn't an issue. Have researched fairly extensvely on the board. Restaurant Iris is closed; so is Circa, I believe. Erling Jensen's is out of the price range ... so looking for recommendations. If I was solo, it would be barbecue, but with a colleague who could care less. So ... looking for recommendations -- I assume Tsunami would be the choice for seafood? Bari for Italian? What about "cousins" to Restaurant Iris in terms of cuilsine. Any help is much appreciated.

  1. Folks Folly is a lot of fun, great food, good location and it's open on Monday.

    Folks Folly @ 551 South Mendenhall Rd., Memphis, TN 901 - 762 - 8220.

McEwen's on Monroe has a menu of southern cuisine with a Latin/Asian twist but it's similar to Iris and they are open on Monday.

    McEwen's on Monroe @ 122 Monroe Ave., Memphis, TN 901 - 527 - 7085.

    1. Tsunami has some lovely mussels in curry that I like while a friend is addicted to their sea bass over black rice (I believe that's the fish). I've been to Bari and while it was good, I wasn't uber impressed. You may want to check out River Oaks - they have a bistro style menu - the chef there used to be located downtown but went out East and is in charge of a different restaurant. He's got a burger that another friend is addicted to and I'd trust him to do it right. He was the head chef at Chez Phillipe at the Peabody before going out on his own a couple of years ago.
McEwen's is good and Flight Restaurant downtown has been getting some good reviews from people on yelp but I haven't tried it yet.
