Help finding waterfront restaurant, 60 people, great food?

What I'm actually looking for is an alternative to Whispers - the owner won't call me back so I won't be able to book there. It's a top-rated (for the area) food spot that happens to be on a very pretty lake.

I'm a little desperate and looking for alternatives. There's lots of ocean that would work, and a few more lakes, and hopefully some of the places have good food? Worth-driving-2-hours for good. Any traditional western cuisine - french, american, italian.

We're very open on location. Our date (in august) is set. I'll call to check availability, but could any of you make recommendations, please?

The ideal place is not tacky, near (if not on) the ocean or a lake, maybe it has light colors and high ceilings in the room that's meant to fit 60-ish people, and the food is unobjectionable if not to-die-for good.

All recommendations appreciated.

Not truely waterfront, but the Shipwreck Grill in Brielle has wonderful food. Probably my favorite "shore" restaurant! Delish!

Good restaurant indeed, but if you are going to be able get them to do a private party for 60 in August you are either going to have to back a truck full of hundred dollar bills up the the deck or have some mighty compromising video of the owners.

Back in the day when it was the (affectionately referred to) Horrible (Harbor) Inn, we were able to convince them to let us commandeer the deck for (often impromptu) private parties. The setting was wonderful - breezes off the river, just enough shade, even cheap drinks. The food, however, was unforgiveably bad. I recall once having a plate of fried "fresh" shrimp brought out where a dozen or so right out of the fryer pieces had been dumped on top of another dozen that were right out of the freezer. Dreadful. In fact, it was not unheard of for guys to sneak subs on the deck.

I just wish I could afford to bribe them to let us try it again with the present kitchen. It certainly has the fixings to make for a fantastic spot to pass a summer afternoon.

Check out Stella Marina in Asbury Park - It's right on ocean boardwalk. This trendy restaurant has a very large space including downstairs, upstairs and outside dining.

+2 for Stella. Don't forget the adage that the quality of food is inversely related to a restaurant's proximity to the water.

I would book Whispers but the owner/manager is an asshole. I'm now looking for replacements.

In that case, you shouldn't have a problem finding a better choice for food and view. For example, Stella Marina, on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park has an upstairs space that is a very cool spot.

I held a week long training event at Molly Pitcher, with breakfast and lunch provided, and fifty or so hotel rooms booked. The event ran wonderfully, and the food was very good.
