Fresh Herbs

Does any local Chowhound know where restaurants in Calgary source their fresh herbs (basil, mint, etc.). Are there any commercial greenhouses in the area that sell wholesale? Thanks.

    For basil, the best place is The Bite in Inglewood. They sell 4 inch square planters of Basil. Best I have found.

      Bit in Inglewood does not have any basil in planters this year, when did you buy it there?.

      You may wish to try ethnic grocers like T & T or Basha, among others. The mainstream grocery stores in Calgary typically sell only small overpriced, often rotting, small plastic containers of "fresh" herbs. I always feel ripped off when buying them.

        I agree that this is true with some grocers but Co-op, at least on Richmond Rd. has bundles of very fresh herbs. Basil, parsley, and lots more, also living herbs in pots. I bought a basil plant a few weeks ago and it is growing fast.

        I don't know what quantity you're looking for but Superstore sells herbs in their greenhouses this time of year. I'd also suggest checking Sunnyside Greenhouses just off 16th Av & Sarcee NW.

        Sunnyside has a plant database: http://www.sunnysidehomeandgarden.com... I'd call ahead to make sure whatever it is you need is in stock.
