Mizu Sushi in Flatiron

thegreekone Jun 17, 2010 07:29 AM

Any reviews or recommendations? A friend is taking me there for a work-related favor. I know it's not Yasuda or 15 East. I don't want to bust the guy and he said he liked Mizu. (btw, what about Yama?)

Mizu is a good, fun sushi place. No it's no where need the high quality of yasuda but the fresh is always fresh and it has kind of a night club vibe with loud music and high energy. I just get the usual things- a couple rolls and couple peices. Nothing stands out in particular but it's always reliable.

I'd put Mizu quite a few notches above your average Sushi place. Definitely no 15 East, but I rate it. They have a very good spicy scallop roll, fresh uni (usually). They do a salmon Tar Tar which is very nice. I would not have any of the cooked food - it's not bad, but it's not great.

The restaurant itself is dark and loud, and a little inconsistent with the high quality of sushi.

Personally I am not a Yama fan - I find the sushi too big; it feels like it might bite back.

The Spicy Tuna Maki Roll is great, the atmosphere is great always good musci and good staff. I personally like it better than 95% of all the sushi places I've eaten at in NYC. I also recommend the Asparagus/Shitake Mushroom Roll and the Kani Salad, both very good I'd give this place 5 Stars out of 5.
