Must eat $ and $$ places in Nashville

In these hard times when everyone is looking to save a buck i thought it might be a good idea to create a repository of great food experiences that won't break the bank. I'll start it off with a few of my favorite "easy on the wallet" choices. We frequently bring out of town guests to Broadway Brew House / Mojo Grill on Charlotte near Nashville West. It's nearby and they always enjoy the road house atmosphere, the large, diverse menu, and the tasty plates.

Even though I left NY 40 years ago, I still get a hankerin'' every once in a great while for the type of home style Italian food you can only get in a family run restaurant. When that hankerin' hits, the only thing that will do is Savarino's Cucina on Belcourt in Hillsboro village. A great variety of real-deal heros, pasta dishes and salads and a very nice desert case.Be warned though. your food will arrive just when you think you can't wait another minute.

Recently, a Groupon coupon brought us to Southern Bred on E. Trinity off Gallatin. Among the best Southern home style cooking we've had in the area. All the great deadly vegetable sides, all the great skillet fried meats, creamy pasta and shrimp to die for, biscuits, cornbread, cinnamon buns, sweat tea.... I'm not looking for Nashville's finest dining, just some good, affordable eatin'.

Besides F. Scotts 9 Dine, I like McDougals Chicken, Golden Coast Weekend Brunch, Las Americas for some great pupusas, RuSan's Sushi Brunch Buffet.

Cool Cafe if you're willing to drive to Franklin, is cleverly hidden in a strip mall but is an excellent meat and three. Although I've not had a miss with any of the entrees or sides, the fried chicken and banana pudding are must tries.

Lucky Bamboo for Chinese (not as good as the late lamented China Chef but better than anything else in town) at 5855 Charlotte Pike (in between K&S and Miss Saigon) www.luckybamboorestaurant.net

Bombay Palace for Indian with meat at 2912 West End Avenue

Steve's at 604 Gallatin Ave in East Nashville for burgers and chicken (they will give you a medium rare burger that is genuinely medium rare, not medium and have onion rings that aren't greasy) http://www.steveseastnashville.com/

            In no particular order:

            Arnold’s for meat & three
            Fido for pretty much anything
            Woodland’s for Indian
            Mitchell’s for sandwiches

And the various taco trucks on Nolensville for authentic tacos.

I've seen Wendell Smith's but the gravitational pull of Bobbie's Dairy Dip is too strong. Anything in particular you recommend?
