Belgian beyond Moules and Frites...

Looking to try a good Belgian restaurant. Also want to try something more than just Moules and Frites. Any suggestions? I was going to try Markt, but it seems like it's gotten a few bad reviews.

Heard Bruxelles was good, also heard it might be closed though....

If you're on the Upper West Side, check out B Cafe on Amsterdam and 87th. Good food, nice service. Besides the usual moules, they have good classic braised dishes, chicken vol-au-vent, hanger steak with a yummy mushroom sauce, a huge variety of Belgian beers --

Ditto. The staff there seems pretty knowledgeable about beer recs too. DH really loves the beer braised brisket. Good frites as well. Still meaning to try their brunch but haven't made it yet.

B Cafe in UES (75th btwn 2/3) is great too. Great beer selection and good food. The burger is great and weekend brunch is nice too.

Check out Resto - it has moules frites (delicious) but many other choices, including short ribs, pig's head sandwiches, and a whole lamb dinner.

I have not been to Markt in about a year but I've always loved their food. The Homard poêlé –Lobster served in the pan with a julienne of garden fresh vegetables is awesome. Be warned though that it's covered in butter. I usually ask for my butter on the side so I can regulate how much I have.

I also really enjoy their desserts and of course the beer is excellent.

I can't think of any complaints for Markt, though it's been about the same length of time for me. BXL Cafe should also be on your radar. And Bar Blanc Bistro if it is still open.
