Will be visiting family in the Mayo/N. Scottsdale area this weekend. Looking for easy, good food, esp. anything in the Tex/Mex, Mexican, Southwestern cuisine arena. Please send any recommendations.

The other place that comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned is Habanero's Mexican Grill.

        three places come to mind
Arriba Mexican Grill on Pima Road - local chain with Sonoran style mexican laced with New Mexican chilis and kitchy decor, moderate prices
Carlos O'Brien's - on Scttsdale & Frank LLoyd Wright, straight up Sonoran, family style food, nothing foodie fancy here, but pretty inexpensive
La Hacinda at the Fairmount Princess - high end, creative deliciousness, more modern preparations, higher end pricing but worth it

all are within minutes of the Mayo in N Scottsdale

Slim pickings in that part of town. I'd second the rec. for Arriba's. Its definitely not high end or inventive, but its oh so tasty to me every time I go there. I love their sauces!

Also like La Hacienda for a gourmet/fine dining experience. Their ceviche at the bar was outstanding. Might be good for happy hour apps and drinks.

Arriba is weak to say the least. Los Olivos Norte is a much better alternative. The Blue Adobe Grill is located not too far from there and it is pretty good New Mexican. Not as good as Carlsbad, but a good spot.

I haven't tried Los Olivas Norte, but it would have to be a quantum leap above the bad food and service at the Scottsdale location before I'd recommend it.

Been there twice, both times good food and good service. No issues. One caveat: haven't been there in a few years. I don't really go out for tex mex or Mexican as our home version beats almost anything out there.

We love Carlos O'Brien's..they don't skimp on the cheese either..maybe that is why they are close to the Mayo clinic!

There are some decent choices mentioned in this thread:

Renegade Canteen is brand new this week, and I've seen favorable early reviews.

There are two Mayo facilities -- one in northeast Scottsdale near Shea Boulevard and one in northeast Phoenix near the 101 Freeway. Can you say which one you'll be near?
