dining alone and jazz?
I eat by myself a lot and one of the annoying things about being a young woman in NYC is being hit on within 5 minutes of sitting at a bar if you're by yourself. I'm not even that pretty, I'm just average, but it still happens too often. I'm starting to think I should just pretend to be gay somehow... but then how does one do that exactly? What are some good bars to sit by yourself to eat without being hassled by men all the time? I tend to like mellow bars that play jazz. Is Arthur's Tavern good for solo dining?

Arthur's Tavern doesn't have a kitchen, but you can have food delivered from nearby restaurants (I think they keep menus at the bar). The end of the bar closest to the piano might work for you. The crowd there tends to be more into the music.
I've been here only for the early set Thursday through Saturday. I really like the piano trio led by Eri Yamamoto. They're mellow enough, I suppose, but the larger band that follows might not be.
