RIP Bistro Christophe Truffert

Just received the news, Christophe Truffert on Laurier is no more. I've had several very nice meals at very decent prices there, but they couldn't make it work financially. Apparently the lack of business on the first days of the week got to them. Sounds pretty much like the Brunoise story - offering high quality food at friendly prices makes for a perilous business plan.
Christophe says he might open another place in the coming months.

  1. This is very sad indeed :( Had amazing food and service there...great prices too. Might have worked better as a byow?

    1. My wife and I also found out this week - we're pretty sad. Very nice food, great service and reasonably-priced.

That's two of our favourite restaurants gone in les than six months - first La Gaudriole changed owners and menu, now Christophe. (La Tratttoria de la Nonna (sp?) on St. Laurent, another of our favourites, moved and is no longer within walking distance.)

I live in the area and while I'm sad to see them close, I wonder if they were not aiming just a little bit too high-end for the neightbourhood. The same with La Gaudriole. Both places never really seemed to catch on to with the locals as a place to go when you don't feel like cooking. My SO, who is not a chowhound and likely representative of the "common man," would steadfastly refuse to even consider eating in either spot saying they looked "too stuffy" for a casual night out. if you can't attract that kind of business then you'll never survive.

      2. Oh no! That’s really sad... Truffert was a lovely little neighbourhood bistro. You could see though that they were having a tough time pulling in the riff-raff.
