toddler friendly but food worth eating - Park Cities/Preston Hollow

tenntexga Jun 15, 2010 04:18 PM

We are looking for a fun spot in the Preston Hollow or Park Cities area. We want fresh, well-prepared food, but a place that won't wince when we bring in a 3 and nearly 2 year old. Mexican would be fun ... because we live in Atlanta and I just can't get it here! ... but we are open to all sorts of suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

You are looking for Fernando's on Midway at Northwest Highway. It is exactly what you want, where you want it. You won't be the only ones with kids and the food is good.

Dream Cafe for breakfast, brunch or lunch in Uptown (just south of the park cities) is a better than decent choice. It's good, fresh and healthy (if you choose). Dinner is a bit lacking in choices and substance.

It's certainly kid friendly, including a jungle gym in the outside seating area, which is where we like to sit for breakfast and brunch, too hot after that.

Generally, park cities restaurants are pretty kid friendly. I wouldn't hesitate going anywhere with kids, unless you see a valet stand outside and it's after 8 pm (and your offspring resemble pterodactyls at dinner).

Fernando's at NW HWY and Midway is good Mexican in the neighborhood. Rafa's isn't bad Mexican either, and a local family-friendly spot.

The Purple Cow at Preston and Royal caters to children but is also good for adults. They have possibly the best cobb salad I have found anywhere. And they make their own salad dressings. The draw is the purple ice cream. It is totally geared to kids, but has a very large adult menu, as well. We take the grandchildren there all the time. There is also a newer one in Plano.

We're off to Atlanta tomorrow to visit our kids and grandson. We will be taking two kids, ages 3 and 4 1/2, to dinner and lunches. Any suggestions for kid-friendly places that are not just pizza? Our kids live in Buckhead.
