Rhode Island --en route to Cape Cod

I will be traveling to Cape Cod this weekend . I already know where I will be eating on the Cape but I would like to stop for lunch on the way there from NYC (route: I-95 to I-195 to Rte 25 etc.), probably near Providence. I am willing to stray 15-20 minutes form my route. Suggestions for excellent informal local seafood, or other not to be missed venues, would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Hortons on Broadway in East Providence. Good fish and chips, etc. A one mile detour.

I second Hortons just about a mile from 195 in East Providence.

I grew up in East Providence and went to Junior High school @ Central. I remember getting fried clams(whole belly of course not fish lips) or scallops and eating them on the walk home! My mouth is salivating just thinking about it!

I'd recommend that you find Hewtin's Dogs Mobile. On Saturday, I think it is parked across the street from Chez Pascal in Providence at the farmer's market. Very casual, great selections (more than just hot dogs). Not your typical food truck. There are several posts about Hewtin's on this board.

Can't think of a good informal seafood place along that corridor.

Alternatively, you could go up Atwells Avenue in Providence to DePasquale Square and pick one of the restaurants with outdoor seating on the square. Food there is decent. Not spectacular, but good. It will probably be crowded if the weather is good.
