Newport, RI - best dinner you've ever had?

I'm taking my boyfriend on a special birthday weekend trip to Newport in August and need a good recommendation for dinners and lunches. I'm looking for a "special-occasion" type place that has amazing food and wine. Any recommendations are welcome!!

Castle Hill. We did a 7 course menu with wines last Fall. Everything was perfect. Two wines were upgraded when the requested wine was not available. We were impressed!

I'm not sure what your definition of amazing is, but I love Restaurant Bouchard. I've enjoyed Spiced Pear but I'm in no rush to go back. The only thing amazing about the Spiced Pear was the prices - pretentious menu and execution was way off. Castle Hill is wonderful - great food and surroundings. But something always seems to be "off" every time we've gone. We never leave with that blissful feeling of everything being just right. And every time we go to the White Horse Tavern, we end up looking at eachother and saying, "Why didn't we go to Bouchard's?" The only thing about Bouchard's is that it doesn't have the "wow" factor that Castle Hill has. But for me, I'm always very, very happy.

I agree castle hill.

I took my girl to Tucker's Bistro, and boy oh boy was she impressed.

I took her out to Restaurant Bouchard, and she was even more impressed.

Cafe Zelda was good too. Be warned, these places are a bit on the pricey side.

Castle Hill or Persimmon in Bristol for a special occasion place.

Agreed on Castle Hill. Spiced Pear at the Chanler and the White Horse Tavern are also excellent.
