Kayne's (17 Ave) Calgary

  • 8

Has anyone been? It's right in my neighbourhood, looks kind of dingy from the outside and I haven't heard much about it but I recently read that their menu was redesigned by Michael Noble.

Wondering if anyone has been and can provide reviews.

  1. Went there went it first re-opened as Kayne's. It was a Woody's Taphouse before that (and that was very dingy).

Interior was redone all industrial modern; quite attractive in my opinion. Decent selection of beer on tap, mainly geezer rock (ie. 70's) on the stereo.

We tried a couple of items, they were well executed (Michael Noble was in the house and quite visible). Portions seemed a bit small for the price.

I drive by it quite often and seems to have found a decent sized clientele judging from the parking lot. Keep meaning to go back, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I believe you are thinking of Kane's Harley Diner
        1209 9 Ave SE
        vs
        Kayne's

yep thats the one .thanks for the memories.had those mixed up but all is good now.

    2. Kayne's is a regular hangout for me and my friends. Don't let the dingy exterior deter you! The interior is really nice and comfortable. I've gone for lunch there several Saturday afternoons and have been surprised that it isn't that busy inside. I think they're much busier in the evenings and/or when there is some sort of sports event on (since they have so many tvs).

They always have one of their own beers on special. Angry bald man is one that we enjoy. My favorite menu item is definitely their flatiron steak sandwich. Menu is here: http://www.kaynes.com/index.php/site/...

      1. Hmmmm thanks for the opinions. I may have to give this place a try. Sounds promising.

        Anyone have their weekend brunch?

Yeah, I've had the weekend brunch. Their frittata was pretty good but their sides are pretty blah. Too much 'brown' stuff on the plate for my liking, and they didn't have jam/pb/etc for the toast.

        2. I've been to Kaynes twice. The nice part is the food isn't as greasy as most pubs. Last trip I had the Chicken Souvlaki with Garden salad. The souvlaki was ok, I prefer fast foos chain OPA's for sure. It was dry, chicken had no seasoning and cut up into small chunks. Little tzatziki, I could barely taste it. I would rank it more of a pita then a true souvlaki. Garden Salad was drenched in the dressing but fresh at least.
First time I think it's called the Cajun salad with dressing on the side. Chicken was slightly overdone but it was a "good" salad overall. I wouldn't really go here for a culinary experience but the place is good for a pub style meal and atmosphere. Room is nicely finished.
