Prince Edward County Dinner?

Treating the lady to a PEC getaway over a weekend in July, and already have a great list of foodie destinations and wineries, but still a bit puzzled over where to go for a destination dinner in PEC.

Is it harvest, Portobella or some other resto? Price isn't an issue, but I would like to book two amazing dinners, one for Friday night and one on Saturday.

Please help me!

Would love to know the restaurants you went to and how they were - need to plan for our 30th anniversary - we are staying in Brighton

      Here's my list of favourites...

East & Main, Wellington. Food supurb. Ambiance really nice. Staff terrific. Chef world-class but still trying to impress the guests! Everything downtown quality...just not downtown..

I'd say the same about Blumen Garden Bistro in Picton. Remember, The County is very big, Picton is 30 some minutes from Wellington at the speed limit.

Another 20 some minutes down the road is Milford Bistro in Milford. Now you're really in the boonies...a lovely drive..and the chef is also top notch. Atmosphere is quaint and the room is small. Food and people great.

On the more -big production- side of things is the Waring House in Picton (which also has super pub) and their sister ship the Claramount Inn at the other end of town (7 minutes).

Lots of winemakers eat at the first 3 and the Waring House pub so you can pick up the local gossip and maybe get some good tips.

Ask in the wineries too. They'll know things that people from the outside won't. The County is changing all the time. There's more and more wineries (8 more just this year) and more and more restaurants (3 more this year). The place is definitely hopping down there.

East and Main in Wellington - IMHO it's the best cooking out there right now. Chef is Lili Sullivan who is amazing -- the room is warmer and more comfortable than Harvest and the service is excellent. The prices are also reasonable for what you get.

I wouldn't consider either Harvest or Portobella to be destination dinner restaurants. Portobella for lunch, sure but not dinner.

If I wanted to score two for two, I'd absolutely go to Bloomfield Carriage House and Merrill Inn.
