Donair with Bacon? Available in Edmonton?

nichead Jun 14, 2010 02:49 PM

Most Donair shops seem to be Halal so there is no pork allowed. Does anyone know of an Edmonton Restaurant that makes a bacon donair? Just an idea of something to try.

Try any greasy joint that serves burgers... you'd think they'd have bacon for a bacon cheeseburger.

Try Mr. Donair on Stony Plain Road (my fav donair place when I stop in Edmonton), or if you're brave, Duke's Donair by the U of A... although the last time I ate at Duke's, the donair was just plain bad.

No place with "donair" in the name is going to serve bacon, much less grind up a whole cone of bacon for donair meat. OPs only chance is as skidoo suggests to to to some horrible "pita pit" sort of place and get bacon as an addon, but why would anybody eat disgusting chain pita crap when we have real Middle Eastern-owned donair and shawarma place in Alberta?

I beg to differ... Donair joints are a different breed in Edmonton compared to Calgary.

Unless either place has significantly changed their menu, they should have bacon.

          That's bizarre.

But a donair made out of bacon??

Pretty sure OP means a donair with bacon on it. A bacon cheeseburger is not a patty made of mixed ground bacon and cheese.

can you explain how "Donair joints are a different breed in Edmonton compared to Calgary"? i've never had a donair in edmonton.

Just my opinion, but the Donair places in Edmonton (at least the ones I always went to) were greasy donair/burger and fries/pizza places. They served a more Halifax type of donair.

Calgary places tend to favor schawarma first, then donair and have more of a middle eastern flair to them. You don't normally see western food like burgers and pizza on the menu.

              Just my observations. :)

This is a good idea. I can also suggest Queen Donair/Burger Baron on Jasper and 107st as another place where you could try ordering this.

You could order a wrap from Pita Pit with gyro meat (close to donair), bacon, tahini, hot sauce, veggies, etc. It wouldn't be great but it's an option.

Of course not- the closest you'd find is pork souvlaki.

I haven't seen this anywhere, let alone in Edmonton. I recommend bringing your own bacon.
