Tres Agaves - worth going for tequila only?

Haven't heard anything good about the food in a long time, but wondering if this would still be the place to take a tequila-lover (and get food somewhere else)

I had to go a couple months ago cause I was doing secret reviews for a company. Good drinks, yes. The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. I have other fave Mexican places. Service was good and friendly.

Tres Agaves has wonderful tequillas and the food is unique. Jaliscan and quite good. Their monthly tasting dinners on teh the third thursday of each month are wonderful. And for you Giants fans you just might find some players after a game...

Jaliscan food is hardly unique in the Bay Area -- it's actually the (or one of the) regional styles that's most common around here.

Actually having lived and travelled in mexico for 40 some years, most of teh so called jaliscan food in teh bay area, is not very represenative of what is typical in jalisco. Tres Agaves makes an effort to be authentic.

Not sure if it's open yet but Tamarindo in Old Oakland is opening a tequila bar next door. Of course Paul H is right, if Tres Agaves has a good selection and they can't really screw up a pour. The food at Tamarindo is good but not great.
