Ideas for private dining room - birthday dinner

Hi Chow Hounds,
I'm planning a 5-0 birthday dinner for 10-12 guests. Looking for suggestions of restaurants that have a private dining room, and great ambiance. Ideal location would be La Jolla or south. Thinking about Whisk-n-Ladle in La Jolla but the down side is you must order a fixed menu served family style when using their private dining room. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Linkery North Park has a back room I used for a rehearsal dinner, but sometimes they act sketchy about reserving it.

Cody's La Jolla is only open breakfast/lunch, but you can reserve the whole restaurant for private dinners.

Old Venice Point Loma can reserve a back room or the patio and is very elegant.

Pata Negra Pacific Beach has a back patio that I think can be reserved for parties - they do tapas style food mostly, and have good sangria.

My suggestion would be the gazebo overlooking the ocean at Trattoria Acqua on Prospect. It's just the right size for your group, and you can reserve it for parties. It's magical at night, and the food is quite good. It's where I usually end up taking my family for my own birthday celebrations (unfortunately, now beyond the 5-0).

George's California Modern has private rooms in the downstairs dining room.

A slightly different suggestion would be The Pearl in Pt. Loma. They have an outdoor "room" just off the back side of the dining area surrounded by tall bamboo and a nice water feature, which helps to muffle the sound of Rosecrans. The ground is pebble/gravel, which is a little strange, but the fun atmosphere and outstanding food made for a lovely evening when we had a group birthday dinner for my husband back in December. Worth checking out!
