Zanero's in White Plains is closed

p

Surprised this has not been posted.

After changing chefs a couple of times over the past two years (including the much hyped Joe Dimaggio Jr. or whatever his name was), Zanero's has closed at White Plains City Center.

Hard to believe that a mall-ready Italian restaurant could flop like this. Not necessarily for fine dining, but for City Center mall shoppers since there were no competing Italian restaurants on the block.

Well, the space is kind of neat since it used to be a bank. And it has that vault room in the back.

Never ate there and have no feeling about Zanero's but passing by the other day noticed a sign on the building that said "Moving to a New Location".

As of this morning's Journal News Zanaro is def closing and Buffalo Wild Wings will open in September. They are also closing the Zanaro in New Roc City.
Any thriving business is good for the city. I'm glad there won't be an empty storefront, especially one as prominent as this one. Will I eat there? I doubt it.

I thought they closed the one in New Roc City awhile ago. They already have a Buffalo Wild Wings there up and running.

Boy -- sounds like the Zanero concept is just folding up.

Zanaro's in New Roc hasn't been around in some years.

Why Buffalo Wild Wings? If that quote of 40K a month in rent is true they would have to sell a ton of wings and beer. I have never been to one, I've heard they are great for going to watch sports as they have ginormous TVs but I wouldn't eat there. Sad, its such a great space.

I know people who worked there, I feel very bad for them.

I do hope that they will get jobs at any of the other area restaurants and push the service standard higher. Turnover in the restaurant industry is always a constant.

Yes it was. In the old bank. BWW ---great another big box chain resto! And a bad one at that!! Why can't someone open up a neat "food court" style thing there with In & Out Burger, Chick-fil-a and White Castle?

the rent is 40 thou a month the con ed is 10 thou its not the lack of quality sometimes its the greed of landlords and utility companys there is a great turnover in restaurants because everybody thinks they can work them and when they work them the relize how hard it is so all the critics out there maybe u try to be more understanding . no buff wild wings

I just checked out their website, I looked under the "coming soon", they don't have WP listed yet (maybe it's not confirmed yet). Although I am not familiar with the chain, I don't think I can see it there, it's a pretty big building, I don't think it's a good fit IMHO.

agreed GIOny. and well said. And Moron66 the turnover that I am referring to is regarding the employees not the business. I'm certain that Applesouth can afford to go into any building they wish. When a place doesn't do the numbers it needs it is not because the rent it to high. It's usually because either the food isn't up to par, the service isn't up to snuff or a combination of both. In this economy people aren't going to return to a place that is medicore at best. its that simple.

Yeah, they are. What about Red Lobster and Olive Garden? Not saying I am a fan, but lots and lots of people go there.

And while I am not a fan of Buffalo Wild Wings (I hate wings!), my husband does like the wings that they serve. We have been to the locations in Port Chester and in the Palisades mall. Certainly we don't go out of our way to go there, but if in the area and we have our 2 young kids with us, I keep my Chowhound mouth closed for one meal, and let my husband enjoy the wings and my kids enjoy the chicken tenders or sliders. And I gotta say, it is cheap.

I actually think it will do very well there. The movie theater brings in a lot of people and Buffalo Wild Wings (as a company) is doing very well. May not be my first choice, but we, as Chowhounds, are not the average diners.

ok now im not getting into it with u but sinse you seem to know about the ins and outs of the restaurant biz do you know what that restaurant would have to do to justify 40 grand a month ? at least 400 a month and that slop shop cant do that . there are restaurants with substandard food that do very well when all the other factors are in order.and the reason there is such a great turnover in staff in the industry is because nobody thinks of it as a career choice its alway"my real job is "whatever they do in the daytime. .zanneros is a fast food store just like applebees olive garden etc... they have a formula they use for fisability of the restaurant they tried to get a rent consession to adjust there bottom line but the landlord would not give it.and there are alot of medicore restaurants that have been around for years, you think fridays is anything more then medicore and thats just a chain store there are plenty of indy stores that are below par but they survive. .please excuse my spelling

They were owned by the largest applebees franchisee...so a mediocre chain resto closed. In this economy the places that are bad go out of business while the places that are decent stay around and hopefully get better. It was not exactly a barren wasteland of places to eat. la bocca, antipasti soon to be patricias, vintage, legal seafoods, applebees!, peniche, asian fusion up the yin-yang, etc etc...soon it will be a starbucks or a panera bread company probably! Or better yet maybe another bank!

I agree. The loss of Zanero's is no loss. I have heard that Anitpasti is closed - do you know anything about the restaurant that will replace it? BTW - there is already a Panero's and and Au Bon Pain!

I don't think there's a Panera, although I could be wrong. There is Atlanta Bread Co. which is kind of a lower quality version of Panera.

The Panera is located to the right of the Walmart's entrance (when facing it) tucked away at the rear of that mall area.

There is a Panera. It's fairly new, on Rte. 22 (not sure what the road is called at that point) right by WalMart.

There also is an Atlanta (Atlantic? I don't know, I haven't been there) Bread Company nearby.
