A restaurant in LA that has a private room for my boyfriends 30th birthday
Im looking for a cool place to hold about 20 people. Maybe a pre-fixe menu for about 25$ a person. Even somewhere that would allow us to bring in some of our own bottles of wine. It lands on a Sunday..so that may limit the restaurants
Depending on where you are located I would check with Cafe Cordiale in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd. I know they hve a private room and that they should be able to bring something in around your price range but I can't vouch for corkage.

If you like Korean there is Yong Susan in Ktown which has a variety of set menus. Not sure about the BYOB policy.

I learned yesterday that Baby Blues BBQ in WeHo has a private room - it's pretty cool also. I'm sure they would do a pre-fixe menu within that budget.
You could try Cube (on La Brea/Melrose area), but that may be a bit above your budget.

Private room at Baby Blues is great, although 20 people might be a bit of a tight squeeze - i can't recall exactly. The price is definitely right.

Palate in Glendale has a great private room with a huge communal style table. It's kind of dark and candlelit, with old books and wine bottles lining the walls. I am hoping to have my husband's 40th there next year.

Pizzeria Mozza has a private room that might be able to do 20, and I think Osteria Mozza has an even bigger one.
Melisse also has a private room that could probably do 20

If you are open to West San Fernando Valley locations, I recently had an exceptional meal at Chablis restaurant on Ventura Blvd. near Reseda Blvd. in Tarzana. [ http://www.chablisca.com/ ] The restaurant and side patio areas are quite nice and intimate, but they also have a private room which would nicely accomodate a group of 20. I believe the owner's name is Saede (pronounced "sah-eed" and they should be able to put together a menu in your price range provided that you make separate arrangements for wine and alcohol.
I would also second Hughlipton's recommendation for Cafe Cordiale in Sherman Oaks. Their room is quite nice and airy. However, the food is probably better at Chablis.
