Steak Dinner for Son's 21st Birthday
We're coming to PDX to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. He has requested steak and some wine. He's not an adventurous eater (though we are) and isn't much into green vegies (though we are) - so we're looking for a nice place that makes carefully prepared good solid food. We have taken him to Mother's Bistro and we found it pretty good. I have received a recommendation for Laurelhurst Market. Have looked at it on line. Menu looks great. How is it for ambience? Wine list? Thanks for your help.

The ambience at LM is bright and open. Nice, but not in a dark steakhousy way. But the food is top-notch. For something more traditional, El Gaucho has excellent steaks, but you'll pay a pretty penny. I was personally a little disappointed in Urban Farmer. Ultimately, I think you'd do very well going to LM. That's probably your best bet in this weather. For a cold winter's night, El Gaucho might be better, but now that the sun's shining, LM is for you.
