Boston Hound Wants to Know: craft cocktails in northern Loop and/or Wrigleyville?
I'll be confined to a very small, sad radius of the loop next week (near the north end of Millennium Park) from 10a-10p every day; then in Wrigleyville for the rest of the time. I'd love any tips you might have for excellent craft cocktail bars in either area.
[For reference, I'm thinking of something along the lines of places like Death & Co, or Pegu Club in NYC; No.9 Park, or Drink, or Green St. in Boston; Brasserie by Niche in St Louis; etc.]
This is pushing the definition of "northern Loop," but the Drawing Room, on Rush and Walton (Gold Coast area), has wonderful cocktails. It's located between the Loop and Wrigleyville, so you might want to stop there in between your day and night activities.

I'm not much for cocktails but I can tell you a few thoughts. Hopefully cocktail aficionados here can help. You might also try asking the concierge (assuming your hotel has one, as most of the luxury hotels at the north end of Millennium Park do).
Roof, the bar on the you-know-what of the new Wit Hotel in the northern Loop, has gotten lots of press for its drinks; I read a review that says they have two in-house mixologists but I don't know whether or not that means anything. Anyway, that's where I'd try, without knowing any better information. I've also eaten at Aria, the pan-Asian restaurant in the Fairmont, and observed that they have a very classy, attractive bar there, but I can't speak to the quality of the cocktails.
Lakeview is full of pub-type drinking places near the ballpark, and a craft cocktail bar would be woefully out of place, but again, I'm not an expert on craft cocktail bars.
One more thought, Opentable.com has this list of places serving "artisanal cocktails":
As expected, none are in Lakeview; several are in the Loop (including Aria), with most of those close to the area north of Millennium Park. However, big disclaimers: I think these are self-identified by restaurants (so it's not unbiased), and they are limited to restaurants accepting reservations on Opentable, so standalone bars probably wouldn't even be in there. Like I say, it's just a thought.
So these might provide a few leads, and hopefully other Chowhounds here can help with additional advice.
I assume you're aware that you can be at the Violet Hour, our premier craft cocktail bar in Bucktown/Wicker Park, after a 10-12 minute cab ride from either location.
