Hoboken, next door to Matteo's

how is this place?

  1. When I worked in the area years ago, I would often go there for dinner. Loved it. Really good old fashioned meat sauce.

    1. The food at Hoboken is quite good - especially for the price. A no frills kind of place but with very decent Italian food run by the Matteo's folks. Matteo's use to be the place to go on Sunday night. It was known as Sinatra's hangout and was great for star gazing. big red leather booths, waiters in tuxes, etc. I haven't been to Matteo's in years, but Hoboken is a less fancy substitute at half the price, or less.

      1. Definitely second Hoboken...NY style Italian marinara...the baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, caesar and chopped salads excellent...

        1. Ate there for the first and last time over two years ago. Had the eggplant parm. Very bland and blah. Had some artichoke app. that was also blah. Nothing memorable (in a good way) about my dinner or my husband's. Too bad because it's pretty close to our house.

          1. Skip it. Many other better options nearby. Same with Matteo's.

              what would be teh better nearby options except for pastina?

              how's pomodoro on westwood (not to be confused with the saccharine pomodoro chain of course), i heard it's pretty good for margherita pizza and veal milanese?

              how's sprazzo?

              and what about campagnola?

                Pomodoro >> Pastina > Campagnola = Sprazzo, in that order, in my opinion.

                In that area...

                Mio Babbo's (on Gayley, in Westwood) is decent, if you're hankering for red sauce Italian-American fare...

                Tanino is Westwood is solid.

                  which of the top four would have the best veal parm and tiramisu probably??? oh, you like pomodoro the best out of those four? that's good to hear since it's the most reasonably priced out of pomodoro, pastina, campagnola, sprazzo ???
