Great dining in/near Old Montreal?
My husband and I are heading to Montreal in two weeks for a overnight visit (we live less than two hours away and make day trips often, but rarely get the opportunity to stay overnight). We're staying at the Place d'Armes and plan to spend most of the day in the Jardin Botanique so we'd like to have dinner within walking distance to our hotel. We're adventurous eaters who love good food--we've enjoyed great meals at Toque and Laloux, as well as Stash, Il Cortile and lots of Asian eateries. Since we're only in Montreal one night, we're not too concerned about budget--we just want a delicious and memorable meal in a warm, intimate atmosphere. If anyone has a special place in mind within a 15-minute walk from our hotel, I'd be most grateful.

Chez L'épicier in old montreal is excellent. Really nice comfortable place with the charm of the neighborhood, and excellent staff.

I've heard excellent things about DNA, but haven't had a chance to go yet
The hot place right now is still Garde Manger, but you'll be working hard trying to get a reservation! It is excellent though, the lobster risotto was sick! -

The menu changes weekly (you can see it at http://www.leclubchasseetpeche.com/
)Anything I've ever tried there has been good. Their "vegetables with panache" is always worth getting as a side to share. If you like sweetbreads theirs are quite yummy, as is their braised piglet risotto with foie gras shavings. As for alternatives, Graziella, mentioned above, is a good one, as is Da Emma (which has a lovely terrace in the summer). Both are easy walking distance from your hotel, but in the other direction.

CCeP is nice but if I had only one night I'd take DNA. Funky orange leather, interesting interior, updated smart nose-to-tail eating (have some house charcuterie), and Montréal's largest restaurant collection of Canadian wines (Tantalus Old Vines Riesling is a great pick if you're looking for a white).
