Quebec City and Charlevoix in Two Weeks - Looking for Suggestions

Hello/Bonjour Quebec Hounds. We will be in your beautiful province at the end of June, visiting Charlevoix and Quebec City. What are your favorite restaurants? To give you an idea of what we like, we have been to Charlevoix before and while we stayed at La Pinsonniere and liked its restaurant, we preferred the restaurant at Auberge Les Peupliers (and were blown away by the foie gras) so are staying there this time. We know that we will have one dinner at the hotel, but are looking for other dinner suggestions as well as lunch suggestions. We will probably have one lunch in Baie St. Paul. As for Quebec, we are staying at Le Saint-Pierre and we would rather not drive to dinner. We don't remember where we ate our last time in Quebec City, but our favorite Montreal restaurants are L'Express and Au Pied de Cochon. One of us speaks French, so we will be comfortable in places that cater to locals. Also, we plan on spending one day on the Ile d'Orleans and are looking for lunch suggestions there. Thanks in advance!

  1. We just ate at a place called L'Echaudé. The ambiance was warm (more local than non), the service impeccable, and the food outstanding.

    1. Mouton Noir in Baie St-Paul is a nice place to have lunch (‎)
I went to Toast! in Quebec city a couple years back, and it was outstanding.

      1. Thanks for the suggestions, and we're going next week, so I'd love more input. Does anyone have an opinion on Les Saveurs Oubliees in Les Eboulements? Or Vices Versa in La Malbaie? Thanks in advance!

It may be difficult to get answers from outside Quebec city and Montreal because this is an English-speaking board (well, bilingual more like, but you get my drift), and the habitués of places outside the big city centres don't frequent English-language forums as a rule.

That's an interesting point Snowpea; we have been to Charlevoix once before and know that English takes a far back seat to French. But it's a beautiful area - don't other English speakers go to visit? We're American and have found the people of Quebec to be very welcoming.

In any event, to any Quebec habitues who happen to be Anglophone, four days until we leave for Quebec and we're still open to suggestions! We're thinking of making a reservation at Le Moine Echanson in Quebec City. I've seen some wonderful reviews -- do Chowhounds agree?

For Quebec City, you might check this ongoing thread

As for the spots you are thinking of visiting, it seems that it now falls on your shoulders to review them here for posterity, so we await your report avec impatience! :)

profjmm, I am sorry I did not see your post before you left. I hope you had a chance to go to Les Saveurs Oubliees. Ate there about 7 years ago one of my most memorable meals. By far the most amazing lamb I have ever tasted. If you did go, please do report back to confirm it is still worth the trip!

          2. I think Le Saint Amour is the best restaurant in QC. The food is outstanding, atmosphere is great and service is perfect.
