Wedding Venue - Request for Help???

Hi everyone. Looking to plan a wedding for May 2011 and am having some trouble finding an affordable yet unique venue. Ideally, I'd like a place that is pretty (water views or garden/nature/ nice outdoor grounds), for 150 guests, with good food/alcohol (beer and wine are fine) at under $100 per person. Any chance I can find this in the NYC metro area? Anything 1-2 hours outside of NYC is great (NJ, Westchester, Long Island, Upstate, Outerboroughs etc.). Daytime or Sunday weddings are great too if they bring down the costs.
Thank you so much for your input!!!!

I'm having the same issue... I'm looking to plan for late May or early June 2012. I have found a few really cute unique venues but nothing too WOW yet. I'm looking for the Hudson valley area, somewhat country more laid back and fun then formal and traditional, and costing less then $100 a person for 100 or so guests.
I did look at a small b&b/farm in cornwall, called Shadow Mountain Farm, very cute space but if we opt for there, no clue as far as good reasonably proced caters in that area.
Any suggestions on caterers? Other venue options?

I was married at Le Chateau in south salem. Unless you can afford tappan hill, this represented the perfect compromise between location and food. Great location, more than acceptable food.
And the staff was more than willing to accommodate whatever request we had.

At the end of the day, not one complaint.

Grandview in Poughkeepsie. Best part is if people stay in the hotel about a mile away, they have a shuttle. There is also a wonderful restaurant/bar/club next door called Shadows. We had my brother's wedding at the Grandview and the rehearsal dinner (actualy a lunch) at Shadows. Everything was top notch. They even lit the bridge in the colors of the bridesmaid's dresses!

I don't know the cost factor, but The Castle in Tarrytown provided an excellent experience for our daughter's wedding a few weeks back. Beautiful grounds, nice indoor spaces, accomodating staff, and excellent food. I've posted a few more details under the heading of "Tarrytown Adventures - Reporting Back" on this board (sorry - don't know how to insert a link). If you do it, try to get Suite #7 for the bride and groom's overnight - it's at the top of the castle's tower and offers great views of the Hudson.

Bear Mountain has a new owner and chef. Chef Mike comes from Westchester Country Club. He started 6 months ago.
Westchester has a bunch of options for weeding v enues.Try off season and fridays for a good deal good. Under a 100 will be a challange.

I have two suggestions . West Park WInery , near Poughkeepsie is a very nice setting and also reasonable as far as weddings go. Also, take a look at Locust Grove- the Samuel Morse Estate in Poughkeepsie. Events are in a beautiful building and the gardens are fabulous in May. You would have to arrange your own caterer, which should help to keep costs within your budget. Oh, and another spot just came to mind. I recently went to a wedding at Caitlin Gardens in Slate Hill, outside of Middletown NY. It was beautiful wedding with all the bells and whistles, but there are probably other options there, too. Beautiful environment, too.

Another thought, Aroma Osteria, in Wappingers, awesome food in an Italian Villa setting.

do you want it to be inside in a "hall" or ballroom or would you consider a laid back outdoor event? if you choose the latter do you want to use real china and glass as opposed to disposables? If I was getting married I would look at Catrock in Garrison.

It might be at the high end of the cost spectrum, but Le Chateau in South Salem, New York is a dreamily-romantic place to have a wedding. It's a fabulous, well-kept mansion with manicured grounds. They do a lot of weddings. Give 'em a try.
