One meal in San Diego

Visiting SD for an evening with my family. We are looking for something not too expensive ($18-20 an entree) that has seafood and vegetarian options. Looking to see what SD has to offer. This is for a Saturday in July and a party of 6.

Kensington Grill, Cucina Urbana, Alchemy, Bankers Hill Bar & Grill... you will be really pleased with any of these and they are close to downtown. I would stay away from anything in the Gaslamp.

Cucina Urbana without question best restaurant in SD. Make sure you book in advance they fill up quick.

Yesterday for the first time at Cucina Urbana and it is without doubt good but by far not the best in SD

For what the prices are nothing is over $20 and they are sourcing all produce and meat locally I think it is, I guess we can't agree on everything. haha.. Also on there pastas they use Assenti from Little Italy, I think I said they made it in house in a previous post.

One pasta is made in-house, all others are from Assenti. And just to make clear - we really liked Cucina Urbana but to say it is the best restaurant (even for what they are doing) in San Diego there were a few toomany dishes which could have been better with the pizza being really disappointing (crust and dough wasn't great (tasted like bread) and the topping weren't good for the pizza)

Totally agree on the pizza. The dough is really killing them. It's really not good at all. I'm curious to know what you think is the best, so I can give it a try, if I haven't already.

I think dollar for dollar if you stick with the Apps and wine Cucina Urbana is one of the best right now. The Octopus, Squash Blossoms, and sweet breads are some of the best. Have not tried the Pizzas so I'll defer to others. Last night 2 bottles of tenuta di biserno insoglio (which after having it at Babbo have been hunting down and they have it) , 3 Apps and 2 Mains with a 20% tip for under 200 ...very very happy

Cucina Urbana looks fantastic. I made reservations for the 6 of us... thank you SD Chowhounds.

Only been for lunch and everyone enjpyed it.. I would have been happy just with the gorgonzola vasi.

I have been twice and think dollar for dollar this is the best Restaurant in SD. The Octopus App rivals thev one at Babbo in NYC

thank you everyone! Had a splendid meal at UC. It was pride, so many colorful people waltzing around. The squash blossoms were wonderful! Really enjoyed the dessert pizza. It is a great place.

you should be. it is wonderful and great service. loved the wine shop in the back! they add $7 to the bottle price.

EDIT: oh whoops, you've already been - well glad you enjoyed it, and maybe these tips will help someone else! Also wanted to mention I highly recommend it for lunch - the food is the same - but no crowds and no difficulty getting reservations!

Might be good if you could tell us in which part of SD you will be but you might look into Linkery and Alchemy
