Oceanaire or Comparable Business Dinner?
Can someone recommend a good restaurant for a business dinner, entertaining some corporate clients? I've been recommended to Oceanaire, so I would like to keep the restaurant to a similar price point. I would also like to make sure the restaurant is in DC & easily accessible - places in Fredricksburg or the Palisades section of Georgetown are probably not good ideas.
I don't have anything against Oceanaire, and as far as I know, we all like seafood. I just wanted to see if there were other places of similar price and better quality, or what other options were available. Also, Oceanaire is a chain, so if there was a local option, that would be nice as well.
Thanks in advance.

I think DC Coast would be a nice alternative, plus it's not a chain. From what I hear, they handle business meetings very well and the food is great!

DC Coast is a very good choice. Would make an excellent impression for clients. I work a block away, and I wish I got to eat more lunches there. Love the fried oysters!
NB: DC Coast is part of a local group of restaurants -- Acadiana, the outstanding PassionFish in Reston, etc -- but they're all different from each other.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Any thoughts on the noise level at DC Coast vs. Oceanaire? I'd like someplace quiet, to allow normal conversation. I've been to Kinkead's twice before, and thought it was great. I'm kind of wondering whether to try something new. Although I suppose trying something that's worse isn't necessarily an upgrade.

When you make your reservation at DC Coast tell them exactly what you are looking for and they will give you an appropriate table. Lots of people do business there so they are use to people needing a little more privacy. I don't remember it being super loud there. The booths have high sides (if that makes sense), which makes it conducive to conversation.

I think Tosca is a very good suggestion, although I haven't checked the price points. I haven't been to Oceanaire in a while, but that's mostly because it didn't seem worth it-- quite expensive for huge portions of pretty good food (plus personally I'm not a huge fan of serving sides family style at a business dinner).

Well I have never been very thrilled with anything but the plain grilled fish at Oceanaire, and certainly none of the sides... And I must be the sole person who had abysmal service there.
If I were you I would go with Kinkeads instead. Similar food and vibe, but much better. And very good service. It is the more local option. DC Coast isn't bad either, but Kinkeads I think will be exactly what you are looking for.

JTS - By nature of what I do for a living, I am frequently invited out for dinner. Oceanaire NEVER disappoints. The staff & service are outstanding. I agree with GopherBacker - it doesn't have a chain feel. In fact, the staff has began to recognize me when I come in and will suggest my favorite wine before we even look at the wine list. Good luck with your dinner.

JTS - It depends on the impression you want to make on your clients. If you would like them to be blown away with outstanding service I would recommend the following; The Ashby Inn, Plume, Marcel's and Oceanaire. For the best combination of service, atmosphere and decent serving sizes I would only stick with Oceanaire. Yes it's a chain but you would never know unless someone told you. It certainly doesn't have a chain atmosphere and they use a lot of local products. I travel to DC often to meet with clients and have never been disappointed.
