Healdsburg lunch (casual, not French) and winery (pinot and chardonnay) recommendations

My 78 year old parents are visiting and we're thinking of taking a day trip to Healdsburg (we live in Yountville). I'm interested in lunch spots as haven't been there in awhile and maybe a winery or two.

We're thinking casual for lunch and may opt to picnic at Lynmar since it looks nice (anyone ever been?). We heard good things about Santi years ago before they moved so not sure if they're still good or I think there was a sandwich place on the square which was nice.

Any ideas on wineries - I like Lynmar's wines so that may be a stop and also recall liking the grounds at Preston, although it may be a zoo since we're doing this over Fourth of July weekend. Primarily interested in pinots and chardonnays (clean crisp, not the horrible oak butter bombs of yesteryear) since we are long on zins and cabs from a couple favorites in Napa.

Thanks for any thoughts as always up for finding somewhere new.

  1. If you're going to picnic at Lynmar, you may also want to stop by Merry Edwards, which is only a little over a mile away. They have excellent Pinots as well, and have a free tasting! I think it's definitely worth a stop.

Thanks for the rec Arlene. We love Merry Edwards wines. We did their tasting room about a year ago. I think we're set on Walter Hansel and lunch at Pizza Diavola (menu looks amazing).

    2. Santi is still as good as ever now that they are in Santa Rosa. The Oakville Grocery is right on the Healdsburg Town plaza and has great pizzas, sandwiches and salads. Or you could stop by there and get supplies for a picnic at a winery. Most of them have picnic tables. Other great choices are the tapas menu at Wili's Seafood and Wine Bar and the Chaucterie. If you like Mexican, Healdsburg has two very good ones El Farrlioto and the one across from Oakville Grocery whose name escapes me. Another great choice for sandwiches, soups and salads is Cousteau's Bakery. All of these are moderately prices. Lots of people like the Healdsburg Bar & Grill with its outdoor dining area. They are run by Cyrus. The food was very good but it's not my first choice.
